Frequently Asked Questions
Is this for real?
Yes.
What are the objectives of the Funds?
We dream of making local communities stronger, more self-confident and with the resources to be agents for the regeneration of their ecosystems. Read our Manifesto to learn more about how we build collaborative actions for Greater Belo Horizonte and join our movement.
Where does the money come from?
The money comes from various sources. As an association, we have a fundraising team that contacts foundations, companies and donors to raise funds. However, each community fund is also responsible for raising money locally from people in the community and companies. By each contributing a little, we have enough to support local projects with an abundance of resources.
What is Community Philanthropy?
Community philanthropy is when people or groups help their own communities to solve local problems, rather than donating to more general causes. The focus is on investing, together with the community, in solutions that have a lasting impact. In addition to money, the idea is to strengthen the community, empower people and promote collaboration between everyone - citizens, NGOs and companies.
Some characteristics are: local participation, support for sustainable development, fostering solidarity and collaboration, autonomy, empowerment and action on different issues. Learn More
How are you organized?
We are a volunteer NGO with a professionalized administrative and governance structure. At the same time, we act in a horizontal, entrepreneurial and decentralized way, inviting people from the community to act in the voluntary management of the funds in the territories where they live. We have adopted a self-management methodology called O2 as our form of organization.
Who can apply?
Anyone can apply to receive help from the Regenerative Fund: individuals, groups, collectives, social movements, neighborhood associations, companies and organizations. If you can fill in the application form, you can apply for your project, as long as it has some connection with the territory or theme of the fund.
Will you support my project?
The only way to know for sure if the regenerative fund will support your project is to submit your proposal - it's that quick! Even considering that each territory is different, some types of projects are generally not supported - such as projects that only bring personal benefits or have a small impact on a community, or even existing efforts for which a small donation would not make a significant difference.
Proposals aimed at political campaigning, religious proselytizing or marketing for any brand will not be funded.
Which fund should I send my proposal to?
Try to apply to a fund near you, in a place where you have roots, or where the proposal will be implemented. If this is not possible, you can select “Greater BH” in the “Fund” field on the form, or apply to one or more thematic chapters.
Unless clearly indicated, we focus exclusively on the 34 municipalities of the Belo Horizonte Metropolitan Region.
What are the selection criteria?
- potential for social impact
- community participation
- alignment with the Nossa Cidade Manifesto
We prioritize projects that benefit populations historically discriminated against due to race, gender, sexual orientation, age, low income, and status as a person with a disability.
What is the amount of financial support?
We have set a limit of R$ 3000 for the amount of financial support for the project. In some cases, the curators decide to support a smaller amount, depending on the need expressed in the project. Projects that request a smaller amount are more likely to be approved. In some cases, we can also help by connecting the applicant to other organizations and projects that already exist or by offering non-financial help.
Who chooses which proposals are funded?
The projects are curated and evaluated by a group made up of local residents who nominate the projects to be selected. If you would like to volunteer as a curator, sign up here
When are the choices made?
Usually once a month, but depending on the fund the frequency can be higher or lower. In general, a project is in the running within 3 months of the date it was submitted.
How is payment made?
Except in exceptional cases, payment will be made in the form of reimbursement via pix, upon presentation of an invoice or proof of expenditure of the amount, report and photos of the actions.
How do I get paid for the hours I've worked?
We do not finance “cachê” or remuneration for the team proposing the project. We do not finance “hours worked”.
If you have hired a third party to carry out part of the service and that person has issued a service invoice or RPA for you, we will consider these as proof of expenditure for accountability purposes.
What if I am the service provider?
In this case, we suggest that the registration be made by the service provider and not by you. Once the project has been carried out and the accounts rendered, we will reimburse the service provider, who can then make the payment to you.
How is the accountability?
The management of the funds raised is absolutely transparent, with permanent online provision of information on each action carried out (see above for approved projects). The results and copies of the invoices are available for checking
